Chief Medweganoonind
Chief Medweganoonind [He who is heard/spoken to], for whom the library is named, was the head of Red Lake's seven hereditary chiefs who negotiated and signed the historic Agreement of 1889. He adamantly opposed allotment efforts and is credited for ensuring that the lands of the Red Lake Reservation have been held in common to the present day. RLNC's President, Dan King, is a direct descendant of Chief Medweganoonind and was named an Hereditary Chief in 2019.
